Sources Say that Vikings Will Look for Veteran QB

Word from various sources is that the Vikings are for sure going to be in the market for a Jacksonveteran quarterback that can either push starter Tarvaris Jackson in training camp, or take the job from the second-year QB. ProFootballTalk.com talked about the subject Wednesday, and wrote that Eagles QB Kelly Holcomb may be a good fit with Minnesota. Holcomb may be about the only true option that the Vikings have when all is said and done.

A couple of other options are out there, ranging from current backup Brooks Bollinger, Daunte Culpepper, or Drew Bledsoe. The article mentioned Chris Weinke as well, but he is about as solid a QB as Bollinger. Minnesota may be in a bad situation with Jackson if he cannot get the job done. They have put a lot of stock in the 2nd year QB, to the point where they even moved up in the draft to grab him. If he shows early struggles, the team clearly needs someone they can turn to.

That someone should be Holcomb, who is likely not even going to make the roster in Philly. With the drafting of Kevin Kolb, Holcomb now sits at 4th on the depth chart, meaning he should likely either pack his bags, or if he does find his way onto the roster, get ready for a clip board and a bunch of “emergency Quarterback” phrases written next to his name on the Sunday inactive report.

One final thing that the article mentions that the Vikings may look at doing is swinging a deal for one of two QB’s in Jacksonville – Quinn Gray or David Garrard. Both those throwers may be available if the Jags make a move to snag Culpepper once his situation with the Fins is settled. If Garrard is out there, he may be worth a mid-level draft choice, but Gray – if I was Minnesota I would rather have Holcomb.
