James Won’t Play Friday, Evans Might

Defensive end Erasmus James is back practicing with the Vikings, but he won’t play in Friday’s exhibition game against the New York Jets in the Meadowlands. James is coming back from a torn ACL that required two surgeries in the off-season. Expected to get some playing time against the Jets is defensive tackle Fred Evans, who signed a two-year contract on Sunday. That’s because Khreem Smith’s foot injury will limit his play. The Vikings have two practices today in Mankato, and break camp tomorrow.
