Vikings Get QB Holcomb from Eagles for Pick in 09

The Kelly Holcomb saga is over, as the veteran QB on Monday was dealt to the Minnesota Vikings from the Eagles for a 6th round draft choice in 2009.  Holcomb right away gets in the QB mix with the Vikings, who were rumored to be after him for many weeks.  He will be the backup to Tavaris Jackson, who has had his struggles but remains the starter according to head coach Brad Childress with opening day about two weeks away.

The 34-year-old Holcomb has appeared in 38 games, starting 21, during his NFL career. His most significant action came in eight starts with Cleveland in 2003 and eight with Buffalo in 2005.  The Eagles traded for him in the offseason from the Bills in the deal that got them Takeo Spikes.  They really didn’t need Holcomb after they drafted Kevin Kolb from Houston on draft day.  They also have A.J. Feeley and of course starter Donovan McNabb, so if Holcomb was not dealt, he likely would have been released.
