Chlidress Makes Jackson Starting at QB Official

Jackson

Vikings coach Brad Childress tabbed Tarvaris Jackson as the team’s starting quarterback for the season opener September 9th against the Atlanta Falcons. T-Jax has started all three of the Vikings’ exhibition games. Brooks Bollinger is the backup for now, but he may get pushed by Kelly Holcomb. The 12-year NFL veteran was obtained from Philadelphia late yesterday for a 2009 sixth-round draft pick. Earlier, the Vikings released backup quarterback Drew Henson, while seventh-round pick Tyler Thigpen remains in camp and is expected to join the practice squad when the regular season begins.

Vikings coaches and administrators have more dirty work to do today. The NFL roster limit for the final week of preseason games is 75, and the Vikings are at 79 after cutting eight players yesterday. Among those released are backup quarterback Drew Henson and wide receiver Todd Lowber
