Koy Detmer says he wasn’t surprised when Vikings coach Brad Childress called him after starting quarterback Tarvaris Jackson suffered a concussion in Sunday’s win over San Diego. Detmer was signed as a backup following a workout Tuesday at Winter Park, and he practiced with the team for the first time yesterday. Detmer kept in shape while working for an investment firm in Texas, and says his familiarity with Childress helped him get the job. Childress was an assistant at Philadelphia when Detmer was Donovan McNabb’s backup. Detmer he can execute Childress’ offense, which includes simply handing the ball off to rookie running back Adrian Peterson.

Well, if that offense is basically only handing Peterson the ball, and no one can stop him, I should be the QB. Imagine how great he’d be with a step up from Jackson. Next Year, Peteson is MVP.
