Peterson to play vs. Lions?

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian PetersonThe chances of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson being available for Sunday’s game have been enhanced, according to Don Seeholzer of the Pioneer Press.  The Vikings are expecting Peterson back for the Sunday contest; Peterson had recently undergone a magnetic resonance inaging test (MRI) on his knee and according to team head coach Brad Childress, “and it shows excellent healing in there.”

Unless there’s a setback during practice this week, expect Peterson to suit up against Detroit, albeit in a reduced role.  That would mean a third consecutive start for RB Chester Taylor although Childress stated that could change from first to second down, depending on the personnel grouping in question.  Let’s hope that the Vikings’ coaching staff make it to where they use Taylor as little as possible.  It’s one thing if Peterson was some free agent running back who would bolt Minnesota after the season.  But Peterson is the future of the Vikings, so placing a premium on his health should trump anything else they have in mind.
