With the departure of Mewelde Moore, the Minnesota Vikings were minus the third running back they needed for the change of pace the position needed; they addressed that need on Tuesday when they signed free agent RB/KR Maurice Hicks to a 3-year deal. What makes this signing important is that Hicks has special teams experience – covering kicks and returning kickoffs. With the San Francisco 49ers last season, Hicks averaged 23.8 yards on kickoff returns. Hicks has also started 5 games at RB in the NFL, posting a pair of 100-yard games; he has 869 career rushing yards with 6 TD’s.
