Special Teams Ace Farwell to Test Free Agency
The Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings could be losing special-teams ace Heath Farwell. Here is the report from today’s edition:
Heath Farwell will be a free agent in nine days, and the Vikings’ special-teams ace intends to test the waters. “I like it here a lot,” Farwell said Tuesday. “I like my coaches and teammates. But I feel I have to look at my options.” Farwell said the Vikings are in talks with his agent Bruce Tollner about a contract, but he is inclined to explore free agency because it is fast approaching. Although he missed the 2008 season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during the preseason, Farwell — the Vikings’ leading special-teams tackler in 2006 and ‘07 — saw his value to the team rise as the unit struggled last fall, conceding an NFL-record seven special-teams touchdowns. As for his right knee, Farwell said he is ahead of schedule, noting that the six-month anniversary of his surgery is Thursday. He proudly said he is exercising and running full speed.
