Rosenfels to Get Contract Extension After Trade

Now that it finally looks like the Vikings are going to get their veteran QB in Sage Rosenfels, the team is reportedly going to give him a contract extension. Here is the Star Tribune story on that from today’s edition:

Sage Rosenfels has a year remaining on his contract, but the Vikings have offered him a $9 million, three-year extension, according to SportsRadio 610 in Houston. Vikings and Texans officials were at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis on Monday, and spokesmen for both teams said neither franchise would comment. A trade cannot be finalized until 11 p.m. Thursday.

Rosenfels, who will turn 31 on March 6, would vie for the starting job with Tarvaris Jackson. Vikings coach Brad Childress said Friday that he wanted Jackson to have competition and indicated that veteran Gus Frerotte could return and attempt to win the job. However, a trade for Rosenfels likely would leave Frerotte as the odd man out.

Sage Rosenfels ?! He is not the answer. Welcome to Childress’ last year as Vikes head coach if that’s what they go with. How do you not go after Kurt Warner or Jeff Garcia ? Warner loves domes, Garcia knows Childress’ offense.

If they trade Rosenfels, I’m going to boycott watching the Vikes this year.
