Weaver Is The Best Free Agent Available

A fullback doesn’t exactly sell tickets. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen fans wearing the jersey of a fullback. Fullbacks make highlight reels only once or twice a season. Some teams don’t even seem to care if they have a fullback on the roster anymore.

Seahawk’s free agent fullback, Leanord Weaver, finds himself on top of the list of available free agents after letting the first two weeks of free agency pass by. His four seasons with the Seahawks have been quite productive. He has 356 yards on 80 carries and one touchdown and has 60 receptions for 547 yards with two touchdowns. No, those stats don’t scream superstar, but when combined with the fact that he’s also a great blocker, Weaver can be a solid addition to almost any team.

The Vikings could also face the possibility of losing restricted free agent Naufahu Tahi as he met with the Bengals. Weaver would be an upgrade over Tahi anyways. Tahi has good blocking skills, but does not scare anyone with the ball in his hands. Weaver is a different story, however. Weaver can do it all as his stats show, and defenses will have to assign a linebacker to cover him on most downs, as they will get burned if they leave him unaccounted for. And whenever the Vikings can take one more set of eyes away from Adrian Peterson, if even for just a second, they’ll just be that much more successful.

Weaver has generated interest from quite a few teams, most recently visiting with the Eagles. The Vikings will be able to forget about the fact that they let Tony Richardson go when they should’ve kept him and that they signed Thomas Tapeh who lied to them about his health. At age 26, Weaver could provide Adrian Peterson with a solid blocker in front of him for many, many years. Not to mention whatever quarterback is behind center for the Vikings will have one more sure handed target to check down to.
