The Vikings have shown a willingness to extend younger players who are performing up to expectations. However, there are a few players on the roster who will be entering 2009 as their contract year and one has to wonder if the Vikings are preparing to use them as trade-bait on draft day.
For example, Chester Taylor has been incredibly useful since arriving in Minnesota. But he is entering his contract year and may provide the Vikings with some decent trade options with teams in need of a runningback. While Taylor is an important piece to the Vikings offense, every backup player is available for the right price.
Other players who could be dangled in a trade are Artis Hicks, Ray Edwards, and Antoine Winfield. Not saying they should… just saying they could.
