Asleep at the Switch ?

childress
Jay Cutler ? Who needs him ?

Orlando Pace ? What would we do with a dominant Tackle ?

Torry Holt ? Why should we get a solid possession receiver to go opposite Bernard Berrian ?

Jason Peters ? He‘s only one of the five best offensive linemen in the NFL.

Could the Vikings have used any of these Pro Bowl players ? Evidently not, according to the lack of aggression on the part of Childress and co.

Could it be that the Vikes are just waiting to see what plays out in the draft before they get aggressive with free agency after the smoke clears.. After all, there is a second wave of free agency after teams start releasing veterans in order to sign rookies, then another after camp opens and teams start jettisoning players who no longer fit their plans.

There will be plenty of available players to fill roster spots at that time, but seriously, how many impact players will up for grabs ? Well, chances are there will be some teams looking to shed big contracts, and a few of those will be big names.

But only the very aggressive teams will be able to capitalize. Perhaps that is precisely what the team is doing. They should be well positioned to snag one or two impact players before the season starts.

So maybe the team will start to invest some of their substantial cap money at that time. So don’t lament Viking fans. This is the time for hope. The goal is to snag 2 – 3 Impact rookies this weekend, along with a couple of special teams players and things will seem much more optimistic.
