Vikings Second Rounder Is…

With the 54th pick of the 2009 draft, the Vikings have opted to select Phil Loadholt, former teammate(Thanks Andy) fellow Oklahoma alum with Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma.  This pick will somewhat ease the criticism they will receive for passing on Michael Oher in round one, but again the pick is somewhat questionable.

Offensive tackle William Beatty was still on the board at this point, and was projected as a clear cut first round talent prior to todays draft.  Loadholt has long been thought of as a favorite for the Vikings, as right tackle is a huge need and he is a huge guy to fill that spot.

Loadholt is a gigantic guy, but lacks the footwork and quickness to be a great pass blocker.  However, one can only imagine how excited Adrian Peterson will be to have this guy run blocking for him on the right side.

  1. Andy says:

When were they teammates? He was in junior college in 2006.

Anyway, I hope he can refrain from penalties but other than that he looks good. Not a converted center or guard, a TACKLE.
