The Last Pick

The Vikings had two seventh round picks going into Sunday, but used one to trade up and snag Jasper Brinkley.  With their final pick, the Vikings decided to take a safety.  Jamarca Sanford out of Ole Miss projects as a free safety who will help fill in depth, which is arguably an area of liability on the Vikes defense.

Sanford is another good value point, as he projected as a 5th or 6th rounder, and the vikes were able to grab him in the 7th round.  I’m surprises Sanford made it past the Raiders, as at his pro day he ran a 4.43, which is plenty fast for a safety.  He should be able to stick to the roster and contribute on special teams.

On the negative side, Sanford could be the one guy in the draft that has more character concerns than Percy Harvin does.  He’s been arrested multiple times during his college career.
