Trade: Value In The Fifth

The Vikings struck a deal with the Redskins that allowed them to move up in round 5 to grab South Carolina linebacker, Jasper Brinkley.  Brinkley could prove to be a steal for the Vikings, as he was predicted as a third or fifth round pick.  Furthermore, if he hadn’t had a nasty knee injury in 2007 (which is also a concern with him) then he probably would’ve been a first day pick.

Brinkley is very large for a line backer at 6′ 2″ and 252 lbs.  His speed isn’t too bad, as he ran a 4.72 at the combine, in addition to 26 reps and a 35.5″ verticle.  As long as his knee can withstand a few years of playing special teams, the Vikings could have a very special player on their hands.

Brinkley should have no problem cracking the depth chart as E.J. Henderson’s primary backup.
