Just Go Away Already!

Much to my disdain, Pro Football Talk reports that Brett Favre might be trying to squirm his way back into the league.  Even more to my disdain, they (again) speculate that he may be trying to position himself to join the Vikings roster.

Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, had requested a release from the Jets roster back in February and the Jets declined it.  However, now that the Jets have drafted Mark Sanchez, they would have no real reason to keep Favre from coming out of retirement and going to whatever team he chooses.  The thought process is that Favre would love to stick it to his former team by using the league’s best running tandem and a much improved receiving group to make a successful run at the NFC North title by being on the Vikings.

I have multiple problems with this.  First and foremost, I am a Vikings fan, and Brett Favre was, is, and always will be enemy number one.  So I wish he’d just go away… for good.  Second, If Favre joins the roster, which QB gets jettisoned?  The Vikes just traded for Sage, Tarvaris is Brad’s guy, and JDB is a promising young quarterback.  Third, what about his performance last year would make anybody think this guy still has what it takes to play in the NFL?  I saw nothing that would make me want to pay a bunch of money to have him on the team for a year, or maybe two.

So, please Brett, just go away already… for good.

Update:  At this point Favre remains retired, but the Jets have granted his request and released him.  If Favre were to come out of retirement then he would be an unrestricted free agent.  Brett, seriously… just go away.
