Vikings WR Rice Updates His Blog

NFL
Today a bunch of us visited the Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. We had a great time.

When I was in high school I played in the Shrine Bowl, and we visited children in a Shriner’s Hospital. I was touched with the kind of things the hospital does for the kids, it was very interesting to me.

It was me, Fred Evans, Brian Daniels, John Sullivan, Derrick Roberson and Benny Sapp. We got to meet a lot of children, some that were just coming out of surgeries and things like that. When they heard some Vikings were here to see them their faces lit up with smiles. I actually got to sit down with a few of the kids in the recovery room, I painted with them, drew pictures with them. We had little Vikings license plates to hand out to almost every patient we saw and we all signed them.

It’s important to me to give back like that when I have the chance.

The draft is over and we had a good bunch of picks, including a guy I played with in college, Jasper Brinkley, linebacker. It’s going to fun to have another Carolina guy in the locker room.

There’s not a whole lot I can tell him at this point, just to live as close to the facility as possible. Getting up in the morning and driving 20 minutes to practice can be tough. Traffic gets pretty bad by the time we’re out, too.
