Tractor Tracking: Season Two

Brett Favre has been on the minds of many Vikings fans of late, and here’s a timeline-style look at what exactly has gone down.

Some time In February:  Favre’s agent Bus Cook asks the Jets for a release, but is denied.

April 25th:  The Jets trade up to draft quarterback Mark Sanchez, who will be expected to contribute quickly and also eat up a lot of cap space.

April 28th:  PFT speculate that the stage has been set for Favre to come out of retirement… again.  They also speculate that he plans to join the Vikings roster.

April 28th:  Only a few hours after PFT ran their story, the Jets granted a request by Favre to release him.  He then becomes an unrestricted free agent, though is still retired.

April 28th:  Favre issues a statement that includes, “At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football.”  The “at this time” part got everyone doubting his sincerety.

April 29th:  After their uncanny prediction of Favre’s release, PFT sparks a huge amount of speculation by reporting that plane flew from Minneapolis to Hattiesburg and back to Minneapolis in one day.  The flight was one of only five to go through Hattiesburg that day.

April 29:  It is reported that the mysterious flight contained only a bunch of executives from Target, and no Brett or Bus.  So, unless Target was delivering a very large order of Wrangler Jeans, then the flight had nothing to do with Favre.

April 29th:  Bus Cook says that Brett has no intentions of coming back to the NFL, and nobody believed a word he said.

May 1:  The Pioneer Press reports that Favre is believed to have hired a personal trainer to get into football shape again, but also speculate that it could all be a bluff in an attempt to get the Packers to offer him the $20 million marketing deal that they offered him last offseason to try and keep him retired.

May 1:  Coach Brad Childress does little to quiet the speculation of a Favre return by saying, “I’m sure we’ll talk about that.”

May 1:  Mike McCarthy, Packers head coach, threw some fuel on the fire and said that if Brett wants to come back then he should.

May 1:  Former Viking, and also former Packer teammate of Favre’s, Darren Sharper, said in an online chat that he thinks Favre will be back this season.

May 2:  An unnamed source tells the New York Post that Favre can’t stand Green Bay and is probably in discussions with the Vikings right now.

May 2:  It becomes known that Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has spoken with Favre since he was released from the Jets.

May 2:  Vikings owner Zygi Wilf simply said “no comment” when asked about Favre.  This was a significant change from the “No, I’m not interested.  No way.” response that was given shortly after Favre retired the second time.

So those are the events that have led up to this point, as far as Brett Favre goes.  So tune in tomorrow for what will almost undoubtedly be another stunning turn (eye roll) in Tractor Tracking: Season Two.

Hey, quick question before I fully make up my mind that I don’t want Brett in Purple.  Do we get Brett’s Bikini Girls at the Dome?

If we do, maybe Zygi “The Dude” Wilf should give Governor Pawlenty some season tickets right next to the ladies.  Hey, every little bit will help when it comes to getting that new stadium right?
