Favre Feeding Fodder for Fear of Filleting

Alliterations are fun. And so are the constant speculations that the media and fans have produced concerning Brett Favre and the most famous bicep tendon that the NFL has ever seen.

Over the past week, conflicting reports have been filtering through various sources indicating that Favre has asked for surgery opinions on his tendon with noted orthopedist James Andrews. Some stand by this inquiry and say that conversations have happened, other have indicated that Favre and Dr. Andrews have only talked about southern things, like the weather and dirt roads, being that they are both from the South.

More news comes today though indicating that Favre may have spoken with Dr. Andrews about surgery as a last resort option. Tim Yotter, from, reports that Favre has received a cortisone shot to ease the pain in his arm, indicating that other options are appearing to be explored first.

Combine the shot and occasional throwing in the past few weeks, and Yotter believes that Favre may be trying to tear the tendon completely himself, relieving the pain and discomfort and allowing full recovery to kick in without the need to go under the knife.

It appears that Favre doesn’t realize if he were to make an official announcement one way or another that he would relieve a lot of pain and discomfort among NFC North fans as well.

Either way, all these news bits seem to indicate more than anything that Favre is more afraid of cutting flesh than a three year old is of a birthday clown. So far, it sounds as if he’s tried everything possible to avoid the surgery option, even if it would immediately relieve the pain he’s sure to be experiencing.

Is he afraid that he’ll relapse onto pain killers? Is he just prolonging his decision to return to the NFL to skip mandatory camps? Does he equally dislike needles like I do? Either way, more smoke continues to waft out of Mississippi, and it’s not because of an ol’ fashioned tire burning party. Viking fans best stay tuned for a fantastic Favre footballed future!

(See what I did there?)
