HOF QB Tarkenton Rips on the Thought of Favre in Purple

Today Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton came out and took a pretty big shot at QB Brett Favre, who many still think will find a way to a Vikings uniform in 2009. The following comes from Deadspin, as Tarkenton speaks on the future Hall of Famer:

Fran Tarkenton has a few things to get off his chest. The Vikings legendary quarterback must have had some pepper in his eyes during this interview with Atlanta radio station 790 The Zone or he was just feeling particularly ornery. Especially when it comes to the possibility of the Ol’ Gunslinger donning the purple this year.

“I think it’s despicable. What he put the Packers through last year was not good. Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players. It just wasn’t about Brett Favre. In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre’s of the world so much, they think it’s about them. He goes to New York and bombs. He’s 39 years old. How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year (playing for) the Vikings, or I retire, and go play for the Packers. I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail.”

There has been more and more people thinking that way, as a recent poll in the Star Tribune saw 42 percent of fans say that Favre coming to Minnesota is a bad idea. Tarkenton shares the same feelings.

    Dear Fran,

I’m 52 years old and I have seen ALL the greats play football. And the one person I have enjoyed watching play the most is Brett Favre! He plays with more heart and conviction then any other player I have watched in the last 40 years! He loves the game and he doesn’t do anything to disgrace the game like what some others have done. The Packers were not even on the radar screen since Bart Starr led the charge and Brett brought that team victories upon victories! Numerous playoffs, 2 championships and a SB win! So it was Brett that gave more to the Packers than vice-versa! So what if he had trouble making a LIFE CHANGING DECESION! Ted was anxious to play his personal pick as GM and he made that known! So it was obvious that Ted was wanting Brett to retire DUH! I think that’s terrible what they did to a man that gave so much to them as a team!

You Fran, HAVE NO RIGHT to tell any American when to stop working or playing! You rip on a fellow NFL player and a future Hall of Famer to boot. I use to respect you and your accomplisments as a NFL player, but now I despise you as a long time fan of football. You have NO CLASS what so ever! You are the one that is despictable! You trash another man’s career for what??? For what Fran? Jealousy? You owe Brett and me an apology! You have soiled the fine institution of the NFL with your childish name calling and finger pointing! You have made the NFL a soap opera at best and you have absoulutely NO INTEGRITY at all! I did admire you since you first joined the NFL but now wish I has never heard the name Fran Tarkenton. As far as I am concerned they should burn your HOF jacket! You are disgusting and pathetic and immature! Brett has taken the HIGH road in this affair and you sir, are in the sewer with all of the other rats!

Brett Favre leads all quarterbacks in the history of the NFL in interceptions.

    That is hilarious.
