Vikings Give Favre One Week to Decide

Maybe there is a limit to their patience after all. According to a report by ESPN’s Dan Patrick, the Minnesota Vikings have given Brett Favre a one week deadline to come to a decision about un-retiring and joining the Vikings as their quarterback for the 2009 season.

It is becoming increasingly evident that Brad Childress is growing tired and frustrated with the circus atmosphere surrounding weather or not Favre is on board and committed to the upcoming season and is moving to stabilize the situation out of fairness for his staff and his players. Particularly Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels and John David Booty.

Favre has been given until next Tuesday to come to a decision, or Childress will close the door on the possibility of playing for the Purple and Gold. This statement makes it very clear that Childress has had enough, and one must wonder if this is the kind of drama that Green Bay was so eager to rid itself of.

Whatever the decision, you can’t blame Childress for wanting to move forward. Favre needs to make a commitment to the team and stop holding up preparation for the upcoming season. He also must decide on whether or not to have surgery on his ailing biceps tendon as his window to rehab and get into playing condition is getting ever narrower.

It’s kind of sad how he is handling himself with the never ending retirement announcement every season. The good-bye tour, the fairwells and adoration, only to come back, time and again…..going on 4 years in a row now ! It is getting hard to say weather people are going to remember Favre as the deadly gunslinger and NFL great, or the indecisive wuss who seems unable to function out of the limelight.

At any rate, Childress has made it clear that he is not interested in being yanked around anymore with this nonsense. It’s time to fish or cut bait as the saying goes. It would be out of character for Childress to draw a line in the sand and not stand firmly behind it. Hopefully, Favre will take this seriously and not try to call Chilly’s bluff…………Because I don’t think he’s bluffing !
