Favre’s Surgeon breaks silence on recent procedure

Dr. James Andrews, perhaps the sports world’s most well-known surgeon and founder of the Andrews institute, a world class facility for orthopedics and sports medicine in Northwest Florida, spoke on Thursday at a gathering of Mississippi Sports Medicine professionals.

The primary focus of the remarkably energetic, 67-year-old orthopedic guru was reducing the need for surgeries, especially among teen-aged athletes. But he was also quizzed on the Favre topic by local reporters.

A recent blog entry in The Clarian Ledger (Mississippi) by columnist Rick Cleveland quotes Andrews: “I’m not supposed to say anything but Brett kind of let that cat out of the bag on that HBO show. I did his shoulder (arthroscopic) a few weeks ago.

I visited him in Hattiesburg two weeks ago. He wants to play and he wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings. He wants to end his career on a high note and I hope he can.. He’s a tough guy, a great guy. I’m pulling for him. He wants to play. He just wants to make sure his shoulder and arm are healthy enough.”
