TRAINING CAMP: Tidbits From The Defense

Vikings Camp Football

Here are some notes about the defense and their performances thus far in training camp:

  • Jared Allen appears to be an even better football player in even better shape who is fitting into the Vikings defense even better.
  • Letroy Guion appears to be a front runner as a primary backup at defensive tackle.
  • It is unclear what type of role will be played by Brian Robison this year, and whether his ability to be roational rotational [thanks Mark] will prevent him from winning a starting job.
  • E.J. Henderson feels like he’s one step too slow right now, but he’s also thrilled to be back on the field.
  • Backup linebackers Heath Farwell, Jasper Brinkley, and Erin Henderson have all made big statements in just a few practices.
  • Tyrell Johnson says he thinks he’ll be able to make more big plays this year.
  • Antoine Winfield says the Vikings have the potential to be the best offense defense [thanks again, mark] in the NFL if they can just cut back on giving up the “big play.”
  • Cedric Griffin has appeared solid thus far.
  • The competition at nickle back is in full swing with Benny Sapp appearing to be just barely edging out Marcus McCauley, Marcus Walker, and Karl Paymah.
  • Rookie Cornerback Asher Allen has not made a huge impression yet, but will get plenty of chances to do so.

  1. Mark says:

    1. “roational” What is that?

    2. I am pretty sure Winfield was talking about the Defense.

    Thanks for the update anyhow,

  2. G.P. says:

Why my dear Sherlock, I do appreciate your musings on the defense. Slow and steady often wins the race. Plenty of days (years, seasons-4) left to make a lasting impression.
