Booty Looking to Challange for Back-Up Role

In just his second-year out of USC, John David Booty isn’t just settling into the role No. 3 quarterback. He has come into camp in terrific physical shape and has looked relatively indistinguishable when compared Jackson and Rosenfels. Childress has made it clear that Rosenfels and Jackson were competing for the starting job, yet there was no defined role for the immediate back-up. One may assume that the loser of the TJax / Sage battle would immediately become the main backup, however, Booty might have something to say about that.

Of the three, Booty is perhaps the closest fit in terms of actual physical attributes of a prototypical West Coast Quarterback. He has displays quick, compact and sound footwork, and has a short compact arm motion which allows for a quick, natural release. Although he has just average arm strength, he is very accurate… particularly on short crossing patterns and throws a good short to intermediate route pass particularly if he has the time and space to step into his throws.
