I thought I’d try and make some predictions in terms of the final 53 man roster. This is purely speculative and based off of some VERY early buzz coming out of training camp. Looks pretty good, but don’t they need a couple more OL’s?
Left them thin on purpose, as Cook and Hicks are versatile enough to cover just about anything. The Vikings don’t NEED another O-lineman until/if a starter goes down to injury. We’ll see what they do… David Herron, Kenny Onatolu, Garrett Mills, and Jeff Dugan could get cut (not all of them, of course) in favor of more depth on the O-Line.
I might be wrong here, but I actually think the vikings only had 8 O-Linemen (not including long snapper) on their active roster most of last year. McKinnie, Hutchison, Birk, Hererra, Cook, Sullivan, Hicks, and Johnson.
9 if you count the short time that Radovich was there.
Sound right?
After getting burned on Devin Hester return on the missed field goal a couple years back, it was widely determined that was a result of having too many O-lineman on the field (and the roster) and ever since the vikings have gone for quality and versatility over quantity. If someone gets hurt, it’s not like they couldn’t make a mid-season signing of equal or greater talent than Radovich or Daniels. At least, that’s how i look at it.
