My Take on Sundays Action

As I sit before my keyboard, I ponder the possibilities for the upcoming season. Am I elated because the Vikings handily beat an AFC team on the road ? Not really.

Do I lament because my team looked so shaky in the first half ? I don’t think so.

But what is a true Vikings fanatic suppose to take away from week one ? Well, first of all, I am pretty happy about the play of Center John Sullivan. True he was absolutely manhandled at times by DT Shaun Rogers, but overall he was very solid. He looked stoic in his line calls and he gives me the impression that he will be solid. Maybe not Matt Birk solid, but still pretty good.

Phil Loadholt has already convinced me that we are better then ok at RT and will remain so for the next 10 years or so. Did you see the way he dominated in the run game ? He actually got down field and threw a few blocks to help spring Adrian Peterson at the second level.

And of course, Peterson was Peterson !

But what about Brett Favre ? Well, he was rather workmanlike. He was neither spectacular nor weak. And that is the very point ! Favre played like a man who knows this is Adrian Petersons team. The Vikings don’t need extreme heroics from the veteran QB, just solid play and leadership. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, the play that stood out to me was in the third quarter when the team was driving, he dropped back to pass and was heavily rushed. He stepped up and rather then force the ball into coverage, he simply took the sack.

That one play told me what I wanted to know. Brett Favre is here NOT for accolades and awards, but rather to WIN A SUPER BOWL !!!!

Did you hear what Phil Loadholt said after the game about Favre’s field presence ? Loadholt: “We were all getting a little nervous when Brett said Just have fun !” From that point on, the Vikings dominated the line of scrimmage and Peterson went from 20 first half yards to 180 in just two quarters.

That, is what Brett Favre gives this team. They have an identity. A Swagger that I haven’t seen in these here parts for many years. The offence scored 34 points and I still felt they underachieved !

Strap in, this is going to be a very cool ride !!!
