Around The Blogosphere: Lions Game

Here is a look at what some of our friends have to say about the Vikings victory over the Lions.  One common thread amongst all sites is that the Vikings need to play a tough team before we can get too excited.  I agree, but do not underestimate the importance of getting two victories on the road to start the season.  Being able win on the road and win games you are expected to are both signs of a good football team.

Here are some fun links to check out today:

  • Chad Greenway has gotten off to a fast start and the Vikings hope to see him in the Pro Bowl.
  • The Daily Norseman thinks the Vikings offense isn’t dull, but rather has simply not been unleashed yet.
  • Jason Winter makes some great points about the run defense among other things.
  • Some pointsabout Tarvaris Jackson on the punt team, #28’s ability to crush safeties, and Berrian’s six catches.
  • Kevin Seifert thinks Favre is “winging it” and that it’s a good thing.
  • Grant’s Tomb looks at some of the positive points of the Vikings beating two teams… by double digits… on the road.
  • Skol Vikes gives game balls to the exact guys you would guess.
  • Vikings Ship makes a good point when he says “People only remember how you finish.”
  • The Vikings Age ponders ten astute “talking points” after a week 2 win.
  • UPDATE:  A little late, but Viking Vigil weighs in with some opinions on the game.

I just read the Seifert piece, which is well-written and logical, and I’m not sure he thinks ‘winging it’ is a good thing and neither do I.

This is going to catch up to us sooner than later and this is why Favre should’ve been here for the full preseason. We should be able to beat SF at home but this stuff needs to be corrected come Monday Night vs GB when the entire league will be watching. We can’t make it obvious that it’s still OK to stack 9 in the box because Favre isn’t going to be able to find his receivers. Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Green Bay @ Lambeau won’t make it as easy as Cleveland and Detroit.

“Good Thing” was probably the wrong term to use. But it’s clear that he thinks Favre will only get better as he gets to know the recievers and offense… I still have my doubts.

While I’m trying not to get too excited, I agree with the fact that the really good teams dont play “down” to their opponents. Its been a while since our Vikes have been able to beat em like we should.

Antoine Winfield was on sirius today and said exactly that, and said Favre was a major factor in doing that.

I think the 49ers are going to test us. Their defense is looking good, and Frank Gore is a very good back. Plus Shaun Hill is taking care of the ball. Vikes cant afford a 1st half like what we’ve had.

I might just have to get that book over there on the right for myself.
