Comforting Cornerback News

Antoine Winfield did not play today.  In fact, he was using crutches until Friday and was wore a walking boot today.

Vikings fans may have been a little underwhelmed this morning when they heard ESPN report that Winfield would miss four to six weeks because his foot was indeed fractured.  Winfield refutes the story and says that he is day to day.

“It feels a lot better,” Winfield said. “I was on crutches [until Friday]. Now I’m in the boot. I’m walking on it and not feeling any pain so my goal is to get back out here and play against the Packers.”

While it may seem a little too optimistic to expect Winfield to play against Green Bay, it is nice to see Winfield’s injury will be something he should be able to push past right before the team makes their final bid for the division championship.

Winfield’s optimism isn’t the only good news for the Vikings defense.  The combination of Karl Paymah, Benny Sapp, and Asher Allen proved to be an adequate replacement for Winfield.  The Vikings allowed Big Ben to only toss 175 yards, which should be considered a very hefty victory for this defense as the Steelers were a much feared passing team coming into Sunday’s game.

“They did a great job,” Winfield said. “It’s tough to sit on the sidelines, but it was good to see them go out there and fight as hard as they did.”

Perhaps Winfield’s absence was most felt when the Steelers decided to run the ball, but for the most part our young guys showed they came to play.  Asher Allen, in particular, has to be pleased with his first NFL game as he recorded a sackand forced fumble on a key third down play, in addition to a big special teams tackle.

NOTE:  In case you somehow missed the game, NFL Network will be re-airing it on Tuesday, October 27th, at 9:30 p.m. EST.

And it came in week seven…the arrival of Double A! Pardon me while I high five myself. A sack and a fumble not bad if I do say so myself. That a boy Asher. That a boy!

Yes he did Warwas! Thanks for the acknowledgement. I’ve been reading Vikings Gab I just haven’t had time to comment as this is always a busy time of year for me. I meant to add my thoughts to the tidbit about Paymah about a week ago. It just escaped my thoughts. I shall return when time permits but do note that I almost always read! Keep up the good work!
