Bye Week Comes And Goes Without Extension

Much was made of the notion that the Vikings would agree to extend the contract of Brad Childress during the bye week.
It didn’t happen.
Whether you are for rewarding Childress for improving this team every year or whether you thought he should be punished for some of the boneheaded things he does… the fact is he did not get the extension.
Yet.
Whether or not Childress is back will probably depend greatly on his second half performance, including post season success. The carrot on a string approach will make Vikings fans feel better since they’ll know that Childress has more riding on the success of this football team than perhaps anyone else.

I’m so glad they didn’t extend his contract yet. There is still a long way to go. I like the wait and see approach here. There is no good reason to extend his contract now, is there?

I agree bigj. If Vikes get to the NFC championship, win or lose, then give him the contract.
Even tho Favre bailed him out, give him credit for gettin what we needed.
He does have an eye for talent.

c.c. I give him alot of credit for getting the talent here. His biggest mistake though would have to be the T-Jack experiment. He was way to stubborn there.

I say promote him. Get him off the sidelines and into the front office.

Adam I’ve been saying that too. A promotion would make sense and nobodys ego would be shattered.

Yup, he’s got a good eye for talent, but he struggles with split second decision making and clock management.

Thats where Favre really helps him.

I agree… Favre doesn’t seem to be on the short leash that Jackson was… Favre keeps the offense on task.

I really think the extension is going to turn into the new “will he or won’t he come to Minnesota” debate that surrounded Brett Favre this summer. The Vikings are a business, and any good business man will tell you, your name needs to be out in front of your customers as much as possible. My guess is that we won’t know about the fate of Childress until the very end of the season…

I agree, B… and Brett may play a big part in Brad’s “Will He, Won’t He” scenario.

God I hope you guys are wrong on this. I really dont wont to go through the “will he, wont he crap again.

There will be a good dose of that this offseason with Favre, Pat Williams, Chidlress, Frazier… a lot of decisions to be made after we win the Super Bowl

Well Adam you should have alot of stuff to write about this offseason. Hope you have to write about our super bowl victory but forgive me if I dont make that prediction just yet.
