Adam I think Freds is worried that he wont be able to cover his receiver while Tebow is QBing. Thus he will lose his shutdown corner status.

Freds, I disagree on Tebow. His throwing windup makes him look like he should pitching instead of throwing a football, but that is coachable.

I think he is one of the most coachable quarterbacks to come out in a long long time. The fact that he uses his feet to make PASS plays almost as often as he runs with it puts him a giant step ahead of most mobile qb prospects in the last decade.

McNabb would surely not be my first choice. I’m actually pulling for a roster that looks like this:

Rosenfels, Brady Quinn, 2nd round draft pick.

The 2 5th rounders aren’t a done deal… that’s just a guess. The NFL keeps their compensation pick formula under pretty tight wraps. They should get two picks of SOME sort out of Birk and Sharper.

Tebow at number 6 AKs? Fred thinks his old pal has been hitting the hooka pipe. It’s the Raiders so you might be right, what with Al Davis and all. Fred hopes on top of hope that the Purple doesn’t waste a #1 on Tebow, even when he falls to pick 32. Fred knows…proven winner…blah blah blah. He seems like a good guy and great college QB but if he thinks he can run as much in the pros as he does in college his career will be a very short one. His throwing delivery is SO slow the pro corners will have a field day with him. Fred predicts Tim won’t go until the end of the second round.

Fred doesn’t think the Vikes solve their QB issue in the draft next year. We’d have to give away too much to move up to a top 5 level to get a good prospect.

Fred thinks Donovan McKnucklehead will be with us next year. Fred hates to even think about it. Fred is still trying to stop cheering when Farve gets sacked, and Fred hates Donovan more. It’s hard to break a 15 year habit, sorry folks.

Excellent point about the 2 extra 5th rounder’s Adam. I didn’t realize we had those.

To me, it’s a no brainer now. If Jackson still doesn’t look like our future and Rosenfels still looks like a #3, trade whatever it takes to move up and get Clausen.

In regards to Jackson, I’m still not convinced he’s a bust. We all know he was thrown to the wolves way too early and that probably had a part in his lack of play.
Now, the guy gets what he should have gotten for his first two years; The chance to sit behind one of the best and learn.
Who knows, if we could get some good looks out of him this year, maybe we aren’t looking for a QB next year.

Hey Pat! Good to hear from you!

I think a lot will depend on how the quarterback position plays out prior to the draft. If Favre retires. If T-Jack is retained. If someone else is picked up. How confident the coaches are giving the reigns to Sage for a year.

Keep in mind that the Vikings will probably get two fifth round compensations picks for letting Sharper and Birk go in free agency (compensation picks can be no higher than a 5th rounder for players over the age of 30). These picks can’t be traded, so if the Vikes decided to swing a huge trade to move up then there would still be the potential to infuse the team with youth.

For instance, if they traded their first, second, and fourth rounder to move all the way up and snag Clausen… they would still have six draft picks later on to help fill the few remaining holes they would have on this roster.

In short, I really think they need to trade up for a Clausen/Bradford/Locker type of guy. I think the Tebow risk would be worth it where they end up drafting, but not worth trading up for.

Adam- Nice mock, curious about your thoughts on trading the 1st rounder if we are at the bottom for picks this year and possible 1st rounder next year? I don’t think we have a shot at an “elite” QB in the draft this year, but in the late 2nd or 3rd round we could still get a solid QB that might turn out to be a stud.
