Cowboys Week: Quote Of The Week

This week’s quote is one I am sure you have already seen a few times, but it is obviously the quote of choice to set the mood for Cowboys Week.

The quote comes from Pat Williams:

“They’ve got to come to this hood. They’ve got to come to Zygihood. You’ve got Jerry World down there. Nice suburbs down there. We’ve got our old stadium in the hood down here. That’s all we got down here is Zygihood. ”

It strikes me as a little odd that Williams decided to point out how raggedy the Metrodome is as his way of trash-talking, but perhaps he’s trying to both intimidate his upcoming opponents and interview for a job in Zygi’s Stadium department.

I think you have to look at it from a different angle. He’s not putting anything down by saying how bad it is, I don’t think, but he’s saying it’s a tough area, like a hood normally is, and that these tea sipping Cowgirls in their fancy new stadium who are used to all sorts of ammenities have to come up to the cold, dank, ratty stadium where they are going to get stomped.

I always tell the story about Nebraska back in the mid 90s when they were on their championship run. All of the defensive players, the vaunted Blackshirts defense that destroyed people, would go and work out in a weight room at the bottom of memorial stadium that was just a crap show. It was dingy, dark, dank, crumbling walls, smelled like piss, and all sorts of stuff, but it made them tough. Players have come out and said that they would just go to town down there, get nasty and gross, and then take that mentality with them out on the field when they were whopping backsides.

I think it gives people a psychological edge, and really, putting it in this perspective has kind of changed my opinion on the Metrodome. I have hated it as well, but it’s a no frills, straight football, ass kicking stadium and when you, the opposing team comes to it, it is on. I kind of like it now.

Good points PJD, gives a little more perspective on this. By the way I enjoy your site as well. Keep up the good work.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, just read that our least-favorite commentator Joe “the queer” Buck will be doing our game Sunday. I really dont like that guy. Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll get the flu or an e-coli virus.
