McKinnie AWOL In Miami

The last time I can remember Bryant McKinnie being unsupervised in Florida, he ended the day by hitting a pole with a bouncer’s head… or maybe it was the other way around?

So, naturally it was a worry when he didn’t show up for his Pro Bowl practice on Friday.  The absence from practice was unexcused and he may not be allowed to play in the game and may also receive an NFL fine.

Also absent from the practice was Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers.

A conspiracy theorist might theorize that Peppers killed McKinnie… for the second time in two months.

McKinnie was a disappointment towards the end of the season, allowing as many sacks as his rookie teammate on the other end of the line, and getting dominated more often than a Pro Bowler should.  Given that his stock is pretty high at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Vikings decide to cut their losses and trade him away.

I’m a bit suprised at the poll…we all get pretty frustrated with McKinnie, but NFL left tackles just don’t grow on trees. Anyone remember the mess we had at right tackle for a few years? Losing big mac with no good replacement could be much, much worse. (see Packers without Clifton, Bears trying to limp Pace along, etc.)

Well, I agree, CO. There would sure need to be a good back up plan. That being said, I think there could also have been a post titled “McKinnie AWOL in New Orleans”. Favre was lookin’ left way too soon and way too often last Sunday night. There is plenty of obvious blame in that game, but our OL did not have the control we needed, either.

Hey Guys, I am trying to remember a few years back when rumor had it Childress was shopping McKinney around but it was in a deal with another Viking player. Anyone remember?

    Vikedude,
Oct 2007 Chester Taylor and McKinnie to the Bucs…

I hope they don’t tie Chester in with him again. Chester will be hard to replace. I am hoping, at his age, he may like the limited role and teh big check. Hopefully we can keep him a Viking
