2010 Season Begins Today

I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Super Bowl Sunday.

Watching the Saints beat the Colts was not easy from a Vikings fan standpoint, as there is little reason to believe the Vikings could not have done the same thing had they qualified for the Super Bowl.  This will go down in Minnesota lore as yet another missing ring.

However, the Saints victory marks the beginning of the 2010 season.

The first order of business will be free agency followed by the draft.  I will be continuing to try and provide as complete and comprehensive offseason coverage as humanly possible.  I’ll be honest, I live for the offseason and if you’re looking for up-to-date coverage and speculation then be sure to make Vikings Gab your first stop every morning.  I’m going to be pulling out all the stops, including a live chat during the draft.

Also, while it isn’t official, there are a few assumptions that would be reasonable to make about the Vikings 2010 season.

First, don’t be surprised if they play in five preseason games.  The NFL loves to schedule the Cowboys and Vikings in the preseason (last four years consecutively), each of which added a former player to the Hall of Fame this weekend.  Given the circumstances, it would make sense to have the Cowboys and Vikings face off in the Hall of Fame game.

Also, the Vikings have the Saints on their schedule.  If the NFL holds true to their recent scheduling patterns, the Saints will play on the Thursday night that opens the NFL season.   The NFL will be on the prowl for big ratings for the game, and the Vikings could conceivably be the most attractive matchup.  This is compounded by the fact that Favre could be back (we may not know for sure by the time the schedule comes out in April) and that the Saints and Vikings played one of the most exciting NFC Championship games in the history of football.

Also, I would like to throw in another huge “Thank You” to all the readers who have stuck with us throughout the season and all the new readers for stopping in.  January was a great month for us, as we set an all new record for visits here at Vikings Gab and it was nearly double of the previous high mark!  So thanks for the support Vikings fans!

As the saying goes, “There is always next year” and next year is here.  I look forward to bringing you complete coverage of the Vikings Super Bowl run in 2010.

Congratulations to the New Orlean Saint.
Tough for Viking to get so close.

And congratulations to Adam and Viking Gab for the successful first season. Rewarding numbers after all the hard work.

  2. Dan K. says:

Let’s go Vikes, let’s keep the momentum going.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the team next year. I love the NFL offseason (because of all the anticipation), but having Vikingsgab around is going to be a nice improvemnet over the last few years. Keep it up Adam, you’re doing a terrific job.

I’m with ya Dan, the offseason is a ton of fun for that exact reason. The speculation never really gets old to me.

And thanks for the props, I’m glad you enjoy the site. I hope you stick around and give us lots of offseason thoughts!
