Even More Confusing Rules Can Put McNabb Talk To Bed

Mike Florio at has provided us with even more information regarding the rules of an uncapped year.  The offseason is being made particularly tricky for final eight teams like the Vikings, and even trickier for final four teams like the Vikings.

We already have discussed a number of limitations the Vikings will face in free agency, and now those rules extend to trades.  As in, the Vikings are now limited in who they can trade four.

Per the story:

Under Section 7 of Article XXI of the CBA

No Club subject to the provisions of this Article [i.e. the Vikings] may, for one League Year, trade for a player it otherwise would not be permitted to sign as an Unrestricted Free Agent as a result of the provisions of this Article.

Now, the interpretation has yet to be clarified by the league, but it seems to me that a final four team would not be able to trade for a player with six or more years of NFL service.    This would lead me to believe that Donovan McNabb cannot be traded to the Vikings even if everybody was on board with such a trade.

In simple terms, the Vikings won’t be making any blockbuster trades this offseason, unless it is to get rid of a player already on the roster and gain more draft picks.  I will keep you updated on whether or not an interpretation that is different comes out.

This offseason just keeps getting less and less fun every time we turn around…

For the love of Pete! What in the hell? Freds about had it…. what’s next

Under Section 9 of Article XXI of the CBA

Any Club who happens to wear purple, has a bald headed head coach, a Jewish owner, plays in a dome, has a running back who holds onto the ball like its on fire, has a wide receiver who smokes pot like its on sale at Walmart, beats the crap out of the Packers twice in one year, has a quarterback who is older than time, has a tight end who has his pants off on national tv, has a left tackle who has the social sense of a 12 year old, is subject to the provisions of this Article may, for one League Year, not be permitted to do a damn thing except draft the players you have coming and keep Chester Taylor.”

    Fine, fine, we get it.

Freds, The CBA can shove it!!!
There is a bright spot, First off You don’t have to even think of them going after McNabb.I remember how you felt about him. I really don’t know if they would have made a Blockbuster trade anyways,The team just trying to keep our own guys + the Draft, Will be enough to keep the front office busy… We still have the Draft!!! I don’t think the CBA has screwed on the draft yet…

Freds. Consume two Colts and call me in the morning. It is my belief that yours is only a temporary condition. If, however, the symptoms persist, I may need to prescribe a cruise of some sor…. never mind.

So Adam, maybe we have to find the silver lining here, and be thankful that since no moves can be made, at least we won’t make any BAD moves. Boy, this draft is lookin’ bigger all the time!
