Posted in It has been awhile, but I finally updated my mock draft. I tried to change the format a bit so it is more readable, and decided to take my “explanations” away to save space. I figured if I stop doing the “explanations” for every team then it won’t take me so much time to update the damn thing and hopefully I can provide updates more often.
Instead, I will use these posts to point out major points about my mock and also discuss the prospects I have going to the Vikings.
First, I have put Clausen back on top. I just don’t see this guy slipping like many think he will. Marc Bulger has already cleaned out his locker in St. Louis and I think the franchise needs a quarterback far more than it needs a defensive tackle. This could change a few times between now and april, but for now I am going to stick with my gut.
Second, I have… gulp… put Tebow in round two. Honestly, I think the Jags will find a way to get him by trading back up into the top 32 picks (perhaps with the Vikes) but if not then I don’t see him making it past the Niners in the second round.
I have the Vikings selecting Brandon Ghee (cornerback, Wake Forest) in the first round. There is no doubt that corner will be a big need for the Vikings this offseason. The draft will take place long before much is known about the recovery rate of guys like Cedric Griffin and E.J. Henderson, so I have put added importance onto the CB and ILB positions.
In the second round, I gave the Vikings Mike Johnson (guard, Alabama). It will be tough for me to change this pick between now and April. I think Johnson is a great fit for the Vikings with solid value at this point in the draft. He would push Herrera for his starting job at right guard, which means Herrera could also push Sullivan for the starting job at center… I love me some training camp battles.
So, yeah, I went skimpy on my explanations this time around, but if any questions come up (or if you notice mistakes) let me know in the comments section and I’ll get back to you ASAP.

No temptation for Pike if he’s available in the second round?
Maybe, but at that point I still have Pike, Snead, Canfield, McCoy ont he board… no reason to reach with options still available in the third… especially with Mike Johnson being an incredible value at that point.
That’s alot better Adam. Fred will be happy about Tebow dropping. Maybe he’ll still buy us steaks and Colt 45′s.
I still think Tebow goes in the first… I just don’t want to make my mock include trades… that’d be a pain in the McKinnie.
Now you can say pain in the Edwards as well.

Are you saying the Vikes trade up to the Jags spot and get who? Having Tebow go at 30 ?

No, no, Freds, I think he’ll go in the first… but I think the Jags are the only ones that value him that high at this point.
Also, i was more thinking the Vikes trade backwards with the Jags. Provided that they don’t have a second rounder, they may be able to finagle another 2011 first rounder out of the deal.
Then we’d have a top 5 pick in 2011 since everyone is so convinced that Tebow will throw at least 47 picks and fumble about 98 times.
And i’m a man of my word… the bet is on… I won’t pull out now.
Well, sure, but when you offset the picks and fumbles with his 5 TD’s (four rushing, one a tipped pass) then it doesn’t look quite as bad.
Are you suggesting that Tebow has a future in this league as a QB-Sneak Specialist?
Inasmuch as his specialty will be to sneak into the NFL under the guise of being a QB, yes!

The Vikings should take Maurkice Pouncey in Rd 1, then trade up if needed to get Tebow in Rd 2. Any thoughts?
