Taylor’s agent and the Vikings meet

Chester Taylor is one running back that could get some serious looks on the free agent market. With that, the Vikings are still looking to keep the backup to A.P., and the Star-Tribune reports today that the agent for Taylor and the Vikings are talking about what it could take to bring him back to Minnesota:

The Vikings and running back Chester Taylor’s agent, Ken Sarnoff, held initial discussions at the NFL Scouting Combine and have plans to meet again. All indications are that the Vikings’ goal is to keep Taylor as their third-down back behind Adrian Peterson. Childress said he did not know how attractive Taylor would find it to leave Minnesota to be the lead runner for a team. “You’d have to speak to Chester about that,” Childress said. “To see what he aspires to right now. I know I met with all those guys [pending free agents] before they left and the conversations were good. He knows how we feel about him, but I’m never going to begrudge anybody an opportunity to make money.”

    I was getting ready to say;
‘Hey Dude, you’re supposed to be in the Big City tonight’
Then I noticed it wasn’t Warsaws writing this.

Man, I hope we hang on to Chester.

    Thanks for the update Matt.

  2. B. Grant says:

Along with the way we have used him the past couple years, there is the immense value he would be to our Super Bowl hopes in the event AP gets seriously injured. I hope we keep him too, Fran.

For those that have nothing else going on this weekend. Here is the link and schedule for live combine action. For those that are in the need to know, whatever that may be.

Money isn’t everything, good chemistry is!! I hope Chester decides to stay with the Vikes.

  5. starrc10 says:

I love Chester, but I would also be fine with Ian and Albert bringing in the backup roles. I also have given some attention to the “BSPN” “Reporters” who are saying the Vikes might be interested in Brian Westbrook… due to of course the Chili-Westbrook link which is ALWAYS what those hacks think is reporting.

  6. coolio says:

thomas jones seems like a good option once he’s released. I would rather have jones than chester even though i like chester a lot

  7. starrS10 says:

I love Chester Taylor. Please don’t take him away. His is the only jersey I own.

  8. Fragile Freds says:

Thomas Jones is a bad seed. I somehow don’t think Banjo would like Tom in the same backfield after the things he said about Brent while he was a Jet.

    • bigjohnny84 says:

My Best Friend Freds, I agree. On another note, who stood out today?

      • Fragile Freds says:

        Johnny,

This whole combine thing is interesting, but not very telling for the most part. If dude A bench presses 225 15 time and dude B presses 17 times, who gives a crap. Having lineman run 40 yard dashes, receivers catching balls with no coverage. It’s fun, but I think the main thing is the interviews and medical evaluations. The rest is just the nfl showing off.

Let the coaches watch game tape, and if need be sniff cars for the smell of dope. Now that’s real combining!!

      • bigjohnny84 says:

Freds, I was impressed with the Tony Pike interview on NFL Network. Mooch put him on the spot and he replied well.

  9. B. Grant says:

Thomas Jones is not “a Viking”. I am amazed there is so much conversation about RB. We really have no need for any outside help at that position. We need help at OL and DB. Oh, and that QB thing, too. Getting players for those positions is what the Viking world should be discussing. (along with what has become of Tomb, of course.)

  10. B. Grant says:

Looks like the NFC Championshp game caused some re-thinking at NFL headquarters…

  11. bigjohnny84 says:

Totally agree coach. And I’ve been wondering about Tomb also. I’ve tried to pick up the slack for him, but there’s only one Tomb and that’s a fact.

  12. B. Grant says:

Hey, Adam or Matt or whoever is in charge…

I got that link from a buddy of mine, since we been discussing the whole OT thing lately, and I think I should not have copied it. Could you remove it? Guess I kinda screwed up. Sorry.

  13. bigjohnny84 says:

Ole, please check in. Heard there’s bad weather in your area.

  14. Ole says:

everyone is ok here in Hawaii BigJohnny, the tsunami was just a bunch of “dramatic surges in tides”. We got lucky this time

    Go Vikings!!!!! …….. Draft!!!!!!

  15. bigjohnny84 says:

Thanks for the update Ole. It wasnt sounding too good there for awhile.

  16. Lost Viking says:

All the surfboards have been parked this morning anyway. Surfer dude just looking for places to watch hockey.

Does re-signing of Greg Lewis have any significance? Vike trying to keep offense alignment together?

  17. bigjohnny84 says:

Lost, Lewis probably knew nobody else was gonna sign him so he took Vikes first offer. Or maybe Childo sang the Bat Masterson song for him in private.

  18. coolio says:

what did thomas jones say about farve? What do you guys think about the vikes shopping berrian. I think darius reynaud and jaymar johnson deserve a shot at actually playing and berrians has been unimpressive.

    • Purple Charlie says:

coolio, He said, Favre’s play should have warrented benching, Said stuff about his interceptions, Said Team doesn’t like it, The last game of the 2008 season against the Dolphins…

Berrian’s problem is that hamstring of his, If he had that under control he would be fine… He seems to tweak it allot…

The last game other than the fumble , He didn’t have a bad game. I like Darius and Jaymar, Don’t be surprised if that is hot competiton in training camp this year…

  19. Fragile Freds says:

    Coolies,

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3804004

Jones was right, but him spouting off isn’t right. Do it during not after the season, to management.

Bernie, cut him trade him, whatever…. Just make sure he doesn’t file a workers comp claim when he hurts himself leaving winter park.

  20. Fragile Freds says:

Wow! Your old pal Fragile isn’t a big hockey guy, but that USA vs Canada was fun to watch. Our lads should be proud of the effort they put forth!

AK and Frans, congrats to you and your fellow Canadians on a job well done. I know you guys in Northwest Canada are particulaly proud of the games they were well organized, no figure skaters bashing each other’s knees with pipes….very smooth. Again, congrats from you old pal fragile.

Oles, glad to hear everyone one is safe and the title wave didn’t harm Hawaiis. Freds hears Hawaii is a beautiful country, Freds hopes to visit some day.

    • starrc10 says:

Freds, it was like watching an all-star game but, and I can’t stress this enough, THEY WERE ALL TRYING TO WIN.

I say we get American Football into the summer Olympics.

  21. Fozz44 says:

Lewis signing is interesting….I hope it’s for special teams expertise, as I think Jaymar Johnson or Darius Reynaud should be given a rock solid look for some reps at the back end of the receiving corps.

  22. Fragile Freds says:

See, now your old pal Freds is really embarrassed. Thanks to Older than Dirts for catching Freds error. In fact Alaska really is part of the United States and not part of Canada. So Fred apologizes to anyone in the great state of Alsaka for any pain or anguish he may have caused. It appears Freds was looking at an old internet map before the great Alaskan war where the brave Alaskans broke free from the mother country as a result of Cananda’s use of Slaves and the sloppy French language . An honest mistake as you can see. Again, sorry to all of Freds Alaskan pals, no hard feelings?

    • Fran the Man says:

Well that explains that! I was trying to put together a response to your earlier post, congratulating me and Aks and I just couldn’t think of what to say. . .

We’re kind of used to being treated like a colony up here anyway.

Most maps still show us just off the coast of California.

    • Purple Charlie says:

      Freds,
Don’t be embarred Pals, When I read that, I was like What is he talking about??? PC understands that Fred’s is getting Older and these mistakes will happen time to time…

  23. Fran the Man says:

By the way Ak, you better hurry and get back to your post, Matt has completely taken over this forum!!!

  24. Purple Charlie says:

Guys, Anybody seen any FA updated???
