Taylor Is Now The Enemy
Chester Taylor is no longer a Viking and he has opted to sign with the Divisional Rival Chicago Bears.
His deal is reported as a four year contract worth $12.5 million.
An interesting note is that the Star Tribune is reporting that the deal includes $7 million in guaranteed money in the first year. This is important because the Vikings are hampered under the “Final Four Plan.” With the Taylor contract now in the books, the Vikings would seemingly be allowed to sign an unrestricted free agent of their choice and offer that player up to $7 million in the first year.
It also sounds like Taylor is excited about the chance to be a starting back in a Mike Martz led offense.

I could tell my mid season that CT was losing interest…dropping more passes, fumbling more often…..compared to last yr, he was getting less reps and he wasn’t keeping his head in the game…IMO….offense will not miss a beat with CT gone….believe he spent too much time this past season thinking about the coming year and his new contract…

I agree here Krugs… Taylor was not very impressive to me this season and all the TV Shows have used so much rhetoric when describing him that I felt myself wavering in my original assessment… but then I realized it and went back to my original thinking that this should be viewed as an OPPORTUNITY not a loss.

Starr, don’t worry. WORST CASE scenario is Ian Johnson and Albert Young backing up Adrian Peterson… which isn’t that bad.
Most teams would kill to have that be their worst case scenario.

It’s time for the Vikes to identify a target they can sign for the same 2010 salary that Taylor got… but they need to act fast as pickings are already slim.
How about Bobbie Williams, Leigh Bodden, or even Kampman?

Kampman, Allen, Edwards, Robison, Williams, Williams…. For the right price Kampman would be awesome, but it would seem like waste since we are pretty well set right at the moment.

Also have to wonder if this opens the door for LT or westbrook to sign with the Vikes. We’ll see how confident they are in the backups they have, and whether they will find it worthwhile to sign someone like that to be a 3rd down back instead.

Maybe Westbrook but highly doubt LT is in the works. With teams in need of a running back possibly getting their “fix” in the form of free agents… there could be some VERY good value in this coming draft at that position.

Adam is right, I watched most of the combine and the RB position is strong. Will be some good prospects in rounds 2, 3, and 4.

I don’t see us signing a RB… I think CT was the best on the free agent market.
I would like it if we found a corner or safety. Stupid Bears should have paid more for Chester.

Ole, I wish we were missing McKinnie right now instead of Chet. I take that back, I wouldnt miss Mckinnie at all. Maybe knowing he has to go against Peppers and Van Den Bosch twice each, he will just retire.

Read between the lines in Star Tribune story about Chilli’s trip to Hattiesburg.
Chilli tells Deanna that it doesn’t matter what outfit she puts out for him. Brett is going to do whatever he wants. Sure enough Brett shows up in jeans and t-shirt on Leno.
Say, Chilli. How did you know that when you give your QB a choice between play A and play B he just ignores you and does what he wants?
What was the purpose of the trip? Get back on the same page and ease some tensions. Isn’t that what all Head Coaches do? Visit their QBs in their home towns to make sure they are enjoying the off-season.
Of course, Brett has always got along splendidly with all his coaches, hasn’t he?

Maybe Brett needed a ride? Helping him pick out his clothes seems like something Childress would be good at.
I heard a rumor that Brett only lets him do stuff like that when he wears that cute little stewardess outfit.

We need to sign Jared Gaither, the guy is a stud and is an improvement over McKinne any day especailly with Peppers and Vanden Bosh now in our division. We’d be giving up a first rounder but we could trade McKinne for a 2nd easliy and get a DB too
