StarCaps Trial Is Underway

I’ll openly admit to you all that I do not like writing about the StarCaps case that pits the NFL versus Pat and Kevin Williams.  One big reason for that is because it is not the bright and shiny type of news that is fun to cover, such as the NFL Draft.  Mostly, however, it is because it makes me feel stupid.  I will be honest with by saying that i do not fully understand all the nuances involved in this case.

Never-the-less, I wanted to pass along to you that the trial has officially started today in Minneapolis.  Pat Williams was seen wearing a brace on his elbow from where he recently had surgery, Brad Childress has been court ordered to testify, and this thing is shaping up to get very ugly very quickly.

Despite my disdain for the topic, I will endevour to keep you all updated as the proceedings happen.

don’t believe it will get ugly at all…….players win, state of MN wins, NFL loses…….most close calls go against Vikes in OT of the NFC champ game in 2010…..business as usual!

    GO VIKES!!!!!

I guess that would be 2011…..

Freds couldn’t give a rats ass about the Stargate thing. Sit for 4 games, don’t sit for 4 games… whatever. Let’s just get it behind us.

Regarding that yutz corner who apparently we are looking at, Fred doesn’t worry so much about the fact the he was cut by the Lions. Here’s why. The Vikings have proven to have an elite pass rush which clearly the Lions and Tampa don’t have. There is nothing better from a corner back’s standpoint than to know they don’t have to cover for long. Since Ray Ray and Jared have been so good, it’s not a surprise Cedric and Tony have become better corners. Their cover skill haven’t changed, they just don’t have to cover as long and don’t get burned deep because the QB has no time to throw. Let’s face it, our pro bowl corner Tony Winfield is no cover corner, he’s a better than average cover corner with great tackling abilities. As another example, why in the hello did Warren’s little brother Benny Sapp look so good after Tony got hurt? Yes, a good pass rush. Same dude, he doesn’t have to cover as long.

Freds not saying we can slot anyone in there, but a decent veteran corner would suffice in case Asher Allen poops himself.

Let’s just make sure we sign a corner with some character. Don’t want a dude like “Stairwell” Dwight Smith on the prowl!

    Sheesh!

Which came first, the pass rush or the pass coverage?

  5. Lost Viking says:

Excellent summary, Freddie, as per usual. Got the Any Winehouse reference. I can drink to that.

Vike can improve on CB coverage. The Tampa 2 is all about prevention. we’re constantly having the corners lay off and drop into coverage. Flacco, Cutler and Rodgers all found receivers open on short curls and outs. And they will again in 2010 irrespective of who we sign

Agree Vike have two openings at corner if Sapp don’t come back. One could be filled w/ veteran. No need to break the bank or sign notorious criminal. Don’t need criminal record check or to pee in a cup. Stone hands OK.
