Introducing Lito

As we discussed earlier today, the Vikings signed veteran cornerback Lito Sheppard to a one year deal.

The acquisition of the player will be overshadowed by the possible draft implications that it has.  Putting the draft aside for a second, the move itself is definetly noteworthy.

So who is Lito Sheppard?

Sheppard was the 26th overall pick of the Eagles back in 2002 after an imprseeive college career at Florida.

Sheppard caught on fairly quickly and was voted into two Pro Bowls (2004 & 2006).  His injury problems began in the 2006 post season and continued through 2007.  The Eagles acquired Asante Samuel and in 2008 decided to deal Sheppard to the New York Jets.

Sheppard struggled in New York in 2009 and they released him in March of 2010.

Now the Vikings have picked up another former-Eagle fromt he Childres days, and are hoping he will be able to boost a secondary that will see a very competitive group of reciever talent in 2010.

Here are his career statistics from NFL.com.

In a year with no cap, fans should not concern themselves with how the team spends their money, so this move should not hurt.  At the very least, the Vikings should have just landed themselves an upgrade from Karl Paymah… if not a player that can compete at a high level every Sunday.
