Vikings Swing And Miss On Adding Another Wide Out

Is a wide receiver group consisting of Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian, Percy Harvin, Greg Lewis, Jaymar Johnson, Joe Webb, Taye Biddle, Tindal Kelton, Aaron Rhea and Ray Small good enough?

Apparently not.

The Vikings reportedly made a waiver claim on receiver Marko Mitchell after the Redskins released him on Tuesday.  Mitchell ended up going to Detroit, as they also made a claim and have the “power” of being first in line to make claims because of their poor 2009 record.

As a seventh round pick for the ‘Skins, Mitchell had a solid preseason but ended up only catching four passes for 32 yards during the regular season (played in 10 games).

While it didn’t work out, it is interesting to see that the Vikings would consider adding more depth to a team that already has 10 wide outs on the roster.

I didnt realize that we have two WRs on the roster with the name of Greg Lewis – what an incredible coincidence. Just yanking your chain Adam – looks like you got him twice in there. It is interesting they would take this swing – I guess you never have enough depth, or they are considering some trade down the line that we dont know about.

  2. Purple Charlie says:

I see the Williams didn’t get the break we were hoping for. Check PFT…

  3. Coolio says:

Vikings need to trade for a run stoppig DT. What do you guys think?

  4. Purple Charlie says:

Cools, Who’s out there to sign??? The Redskins just paid Haynesworth 21 million, I wouldn’t think they would trade him, I don’t know if even he would fit in personally???

Teams like to hang on to DT’s that plug the holes…

  5. Fragile Freds says:

Why trade for a run stopping DT? No confidence is our current guys?

    • Purple Charlie says:

Freds, I like Fred and Jimmy, They stepped it up last year…
      Cools ???

      • Purple Charlie says:

Fred, Like how I thru Cools under the Bus !!!

      • Fragile Freds says:

Your a bad bad man Charles.

We don’t make some goofy trade for just 4 games. That would be a knee jerk reaction to a short term issue. We’ve got enough guys to cover for a few games.

Put Joe Webb in there at tackle, he can jump over the lineman each time and stop the runner in the backfield!!

      • starrc10 says:

Asher Allen can take the snaps when Joe is tired from playing DT.

    • Purple Charlie says:

Freds your right, we have the guys to cover it, I do like idea of Webb, the kid’s like a giant bullfrog!!!

Starrs, You just made points with G.P. getting Asher on the field ha ha.

  6. Purple Charlie says:

    I’m mean Threw!!! Oh Boy…

      • krugjr says:

Charlie…….sounds worse than it is…most of that was expected…..I’m ready for LA Vikings cuz Pawlenty seems like the enemy….. about the Wms Wall: 32 Billionaires hire a lawyer, 2 football players hire a lawyer, hmmmmmmmmm, who’s gonna win that one?

        GOING, GOING, VIKES!!!!!

  8. Viking John says:

I think we should get some beer and talk about it. Too cold to take the pontoon out.
    Go vikes

  9. krugjr says:

you guys are cracking me up on this DL stuff…….Webb over the top is just crazy funny…..JEFF, I’d love to see that!

  10. Coolio says:

Freds, it is not a short term issue. Pat Williams will not last forever

    • Fragile Freds says:

Which DL would you recommend we trade for? What kind of package would it take to get your guy?

The Vikes did re-sign Kennedy. They must see him as an adequate backup, or starter for next year perhaps. We will sure learn more about the depth at DL this year. As Charles notes, we have time and opportunity to work on this problem at a later date.

  11. Purple Charlie says:

Cools, Freds mean as far as the 4 game suspension, As far as Pat lasting, That is something that can be adressed in next years draft or FA…

Just kiddin about throwing ya under the bus pal he he…

What are the odds of running out of coffee filters and coffee at the same time? I buy the 200 pack filters and the 33oz coffee. We make one pot a day.
Hey Adam, the schedule is out..:)

  13. coolio says:

Sorry for being ignorant but if the Vikings say trade for Albert Haynesworth they would inherit his huge contract right? How much money would the Vikings have to dish out?

    • starrc10 says:

We would need to restructure his contract, possibly front load it this year.

But this all assumes the Wilf family is still in buying mode. If they start getting super cheap it is a good sign that they have lost their faith in getting a new stadium built and will start looking to sell the team.

      • Purple Charlie says:

Starrs,Whatever happens with the stadium deal,I really hope they keep the team, After the last couple owners These guys are the best!!!

  14. coolio says:

Oh I just found out we would only have to pay 9 million for 2 years if we trade for him and that Haynesworth wants to come to the Vikes.

I got that from the Dailynorseman blog.

  15. Ole says:

ok, so no “question and answer” blog this weekend
Adam must be busy looking for his “special purpose”
    sure hope he finds it

  16. Lost Viking says:

Haynesworth wants to play DT in a classic 4-3 defense. Viking appeal to him for obvious reasons.

Another guy who was wooed then coddled by idiot Snyder in Washington. Viking may get a some discount by signing Haynesworth but why would fat Albert not demand a renegotiation out of the deal?

Haynesworth was a dominant, game-changing DT but there are flags all over this guy. Phat Pat started slow last season but came on and Jimmy Kennedy and Freddie the Felon are able bodies. Viking could take the step of just ‘retiring’ Pat Williams while transferring the salary. But you could expect the team veterans to be chafed as such a move

  17. james aldridge says:

Imagine if they got haynesworth and put phat pat in the middle, kevin and albert on each side of him and allen and edwards outside of them. It would be fun to watch..
