Visanthe Shiancoe Says It’s Unfair to Slam Favre

NFL.com has a story about the latest with Brett Favre, and says that one of his favorite targets from last season – TE Visanthe Shiancoe says from a chat that it’s not fair to knock the guy that will be under center for the Vikings in 2010:

Favre Watch just isn’t as hot this offseason, with the un-announced return of Favre presumably just one official announcement away. Many in the know believe Favre won’t be close to Minnesota until the flood gates and the SUVs and sports cars speed north from Mankato toward Minneapolis, signaling the end of training camp.

So a Favre sighting isn’t anticipated in camp, and while we wait, we’ve pondered in recent weeks what impact the Favre Rules truly have on the Vikings’ locker room, and whether the existing double standard is indeed a schism. Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe went on the record a while back downplaying the Favre Rules, and told fans during a live NFL.com chat on Friday there’s a certain understanding of Favre’s position.

“That’s just a part of Favre that we accept,” Shiancoe said. “It’s not like he’s trying to be detrimental or malicious with his indecisiveness. He’s really trying to see if his body will hold up and trying to make the best decision for his family. You can’t knock him for that. Of course, though, the sooner we know the better, so we can mentally prepare.”
