Camp Breakdown: Day Six

[Editor’s Note:  While I am not going to include every source link, please note that all the sources consist of the sites (and Twitter accounts of their writers) that are featured in our blogroll on the right hand side of this page.]

There isn’t a whole lot to report from today’s practice, as half the day was committed to special teams only, and most of the Vikings news today revolved around a certain QB that isn’t at camp instead of the ones that are.

The Passers

Jackson’s arm strength was on display when he had a “thread the needle” pass that was perfect to Jaymar Johnson.  Unfortunately, that throw was followed up by a pass almost picked by Lito Sheppard and Erin Henderson getting him for a sack.

The Runners

Adrian Peterson still was not practicing due to “tightness” in his leg.

During special teams practice, Darius Reynaud was taken off  the field on a cart with what appeared to be a foot injury.

The Pass Catchers

Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin still were not participating.  Harvin went home to be with his family after the death of his grandmother.

At one point, Taye Biddle stepped up to make a nice grab along the sidelines.

The Blockers

Bryant McKinnie was able to take part in practice after getting overheated on Monday.

The Linebackers

J Lemen was not practicing, and has a leg injury of some sort.

The Secondary

Cedric Griffin and Benny Sapp were still not participating.

The Special Teams

In the morning, Ryan Longwell went six for six on field goals, which included a 53 yarder at the end.

Chris Kluwe worked on his directional punting in particular.

Lito Sheppard, Marcus Sherels, and Taye Biddle worked on punt returns while Jaymar Johnson, Darius Reynaud, and Ray Small returned kicks.

Adam, who do you see returning punts if reynaud cant?

    • Adam Warwas says:

Sure, I’ll bite on a very worthy question 🙂

First, i would say the Vikes would be making a mistake by cutting Reynaud (pending the foot injury of course).

Second, if Reynaud isn’t returning the punts then he probably isn’t the #3 back meaning the Vikes are going without a #3 or it is Moats or Young. Neither of whom will return punts.

We can rule out WRs Rice, Berrian, Mitchell and Lewis i think. Leaving Harvin and whatever young WRs they go with as an option.

At DB, we can probably rule out Griffin, Winfield, sapp, and Cook. That leaves Asher, Sheppard, or Sherels.

So, if it isn’t Reynaud, I would guess that it becomes the job of whomever they decide to keep as a #5 WR. Jaymar?

Although, maybe Harvin swoops in in the second half of camp and has improved enough in this area to take it over.

A definite answer is hard, but my honest answer to your question: Percy Harvin.

Thanks Adam I was thinking the same thing but I understand the argument about not wanting to risk injury and the migrane thing with Harvin also.

Btw Adam we havent seen your game by game predictions on the with or without Favre results. Didnt think I’d let you off the hook that easy did you?
