Camp Breakdown: Day Eight (Morning)

[Editor’s Note:  While I am not going to include every source link, please note that all the sources consist of the sites (and Twitter accounts of their writers) that are featured in our blogroll on the right hand side of this page.]

The Passers

In the third down drills, Sage Rosenfels was threw an interception to Marcus Sherels.  The pass was intended for Marko Mitchell.

Joe Webb continues to impress despite being such a raw prospect.  He had a nice throw to Marquis Hamilton along the sideline.

In team drills, the passing stats ended up as follows:  Jackson 11-for-14; Rosenfels 5-for-7, INT; Joe Webb 5-for-5

The Runners

Adrian Peterson was back to practice after missing five in a row, but was held out of the 7-on-7 drills.  He opened up practice by catching a Tarvaris Jackson pass.

At one point, Fahu Tahi left practice and headed to the locker room.  He came back with his right leg wrapped up.  That meant more reps for rookie Ryan D’Imperio.

Darius Reynaud still did not practice after hurting himself in a previous practice.

The Pass Catchers

Percy Harvin is still absent from camp, following the death of his grandmother.  Sidney Rice, of course, is still not practicing because of his hip injury.

Mickey Shuler appears to be back and healthy and made three catches today.

The Blockers

John Sullivan was still sitting out of practice meaning that Jon Cooper continued to get reps as the starting center.  Ryan Cook is getting snaps at center with the second team.

Steve Hutchinson continues to get limited work, which is giving rookie guard Chris DeGeare more reps with the first team.  DeGeare also seems to have earned himself a spot on the special teams blocking unit.

The Front Four

In one-on-one drills, Bryant McKinnie beat Jared Allen on one run, but then Allen beat McKinnie on the next.  Likewise, Tremaine Johnson beat Ryan Cook on the first go, but Cook got the best of him on the second try.

Everson Griffen was facing tackle Chris Clark when he put such a speedy move on Clark that Griffen himself ended up falling on the play.

On the last down of third down drills, Jared Allen sacked Tarvaris Jackson.

The Linebackers

E.J. Henderson is slowly getting an increased work load and practiced with the first defense again today.  J Leman still did not practice due to injury.

The Secondary

Rookie corner Chris Cook continues to impress spectators.  He had a nice defended pass when Tarvaris Jackson threw a long pass intended for Bernard Berrian down the sideline.

Asher Allen still appears to have the upper hand on the competition for the nickel back position.

Marcus Sherels ended the day with two interceptions on the books.  Not too shabby for the youngster.  The second one was thrown by Tarvaris Jackson but went right through Visanthe Shiancoe’s hands.

When Tarvaris Jackson tried to make a short throw to Gerg Lewis on a comeback route, Antoine Winfield was there to make a sprawling interception.

Benny Sapp and Cedric Griffin remained on the sideline for this practice.

The Special Teams

Despite the presence of Rhys Lloyd on the roster, Ryan Longwell still worked on kickoffs this morning.  He also went 7-for-7 on field goals, including a 50 yarder.

Sounds like it was a great practice.

Adam, any word on when Harvin will return? And how is Gerhart coming along?

And are you aware that we are only 34 days away from kickin’ the everliving crap out of them Saints?
34 Ricky Young days, that is.

    • Adam Warwas says:

Haven’t heard anything about a timeline for Harvin. Weird that he has missed that much time. Childress must be getting soft in his old age… remember when Troy Williamson had a death in his family?

Haven’t been at camp myself, but it sounds like Gerhart has had a rough start in camp. He drew some applause a few practices ago during blocking drills, but otherwise it sounds like he has a ways to go.

    Adam and CC,
Like what i’m hearing on Joe Webb so far.

Sidney is starting to worry me, Do you guys think he should have had surgery???

    • bigjohnny84 says:

Yes Charlie he should have had the surgery. I dont know if he was afraid or what but this will probably linger all season now.

    • Adam Warwas says:

I think Sid should’ve had the surgery (he’d be back on the field about now anyways) but i’m not a doctor and by no means have I examined his hip.

It is starting to get weird though… Favre,Peterson, Harvin and Rice not being a part of the offense. Won’t be long until the conspiracy theories start rolling about that.

  3. Purple Charlie says:

It really won’t surprise me, I wonder what a normal training camp is like, It’s been alittle while…
