Tale Of Two Kickers

Both Vikings kickers, Ryan Longwell and Rhys Lloyd appear to be in good shape heading into the preseason.

Special Teams Coordinator Brian Murphy said today that he plans to have the two kickers split time throughout the preseason games.  This means one will be kicking off and kicking field goals in the first half while the other takes over in the second half.

I’m not sure that this situation could be described as an all out competition, but it will be interesting to compare the two throughout the preseason games.

Longwell recently said that no longer having the kickoff duties could affect his accuracy on field goals becuase he would have less chances to judge the weather  conditions.  While the Vikings schedule can at least partially put weather concerns to rest, I am curious to see how this new configuration plays out.

I would assume the only competition part is who kicks off, right Adam? Longwell is certainly a lock to be the FG kicker.
