Vikings Beat The Rams, 28-7

The Vikings opened the preseason by routing the Rams by a score of 28 to 7.  The Rams offense never scored (it was a special teams touchdown) and all of the Vikings touchdowns came through the air.

Soon, I will have some complete analysis of the game available to you all, but for now here are your Vikings players that lead in the statistics:

  • Sage Rosenfels racked up 310 yards and 3 touchdowns, going 23 of 34.
  • Toby Gerhart and Joe Webb tied for the rushing lead of 24 yards.  Gerhart did it on eight carries, while it took Webb only three.
  • Logan Payne led the team with seven catches which he turned into 52 yards and a touchdown.  Garrett Mills led the team in receiving yards with 106 off of four catches, one of which was a touchdown.
  • Erin Henderson led the defense with six tackles.  He also had a sack and a forced fumble.
  • Jayme Mitchell led the team with two sacks.

There is one guy for sure that’s gonna get axed after last nights game, Chris Clarke, man he looked awful.

  2. c.carterhof says:

Yes he did Johnny, 2 holding calls and 2 false starts?
Defense played well, Sage had a good game. But it was against the Rams, mostly their 2nd and 3rd teams. Best RB was Reynaud, Gerhart did OK.
Webb looked good. First pre-season game, means little.

The real deal starts in 25 days, 25 Nate Allen days!

  3. bigjohnny84 says:

All the D-linemen looked good CC. There’s gonna be some very hard decisions on who to cut there.

what no love for CHRIS COOK he made the play that helped turn us around , with the forced fumble on the punt and the break up of that long pass, but it seemed like the player of the game on defense was asher allen he was everywhere

  5. CalVkg says:

    ok, it was the LAMBS!!!!!

at least we did what was expected, kicked their butts. defense was excellent, sage’s throws were off, but it didn’t matter cuz their lambs (baaaaa), and webb didn’t look rattled and even played well for his first game. a good confidence builder for us

if they don’t score, we can’t lose

Okay, I’m excited to watch the entire game tonight, but I gotta ask now, how the heck did Rhys Lloyd manage to get a sack!?! has him down for one.

I must have missed that one or somebody at had a little too much to drink. Too bad the cheeseheads got beat by the Browns, losers.

  7. c.carterhof says:

Saw the game, dont remember Lloyd getting a sack. They dont have Robison down for one, I know he got at least one.
Wasnt impressed with Lloyds kickoffs, not that he was bad. But I was thinking back of the endzone stuff, all I saw was goal line. Not much better than Longwell.
    C.Cook did look very good.

I found a link to the game online, so I was able to watch it live on my laptop.

Sage had a good game but definitely under threw some passes, 2 of those under throws went for TD’s.
All in all he looked good but somewhat weak-armed.
Chris Cook was the man! Dude is fast. He forced the fumble that we recovered on a punt, because of his speed.
I’ve always liked Jaime Mitchell and he didn’t disappoint.
Joe Webb, that guy looks good. Had a couple real nice scrambles for good yards. Seems like a keeper for sure.
Didn’t get enough of a look at T. Jackson to evaluate. If Favre returns, we sure ain’t keeping 4 QB’s and sad but true, Sage will probably be the odd man out. We should be able to pick up a 4th rounder for him if he stays steady thru preseason.

I must have missed that Lloyd sack too, cuz I sure don’t remember it.

All in all, a pretty entertaining game.

I’m glad to hear Chris Cook had a good game and the D -line looked good.

Sounds like Joe Webb had a good game also.
    Good !!!

    More on Westbrook’s decision
    AM ET
Brian Westbrook | Eagles | Interested: Saints?, Broncos?, Redskins?, Vikings?, Rams? TopEmail

Former Pro Bowler Brian Westbrook is the free agent with the highest profile, and there’s been rumors and speculation all spring and summer as to where he’d sign. The three leading candidates all along have been the St. Louis Rams, Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, a decision is expected by Monday. Mort leaves the possibility open that another team aside from the three listed above could swoop in and grab him.

There are a number of speculative possibilities out there, especially after the rash of injuries to running backs during training camps. Westbrook has indicated in the past that he wants to play for a contender, and that he would prefer a team that does not play its home games on turf. We’ll see how strongly he holds to those requirements.

One option that’s been discussed lately is Westbrook joining the New Orleans Saints. ESPN NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas answered a reader question in his mailbag about it, writing that he can’t see it happening (see below). The Minnesota Vikings have remained as a darkhorse candidate throughout. They went after LaDainian Tomlinson — a similar back with more mileage, albeit less injury concern — Brad Childress has a relationship with Westbrook from the Eagles days, and he fits the third-down back mold better than any of the current in-house options.

Have only seen highlights….but Marko and Jaymar looked pretty solid. Good to hear Cook looked good as well….it would be huge if he could hold down the starting cb slot.

  12. wtfvikesfan says:

Payne looked very good hopes he makes the team. LOOKS like there will be a lockout!!!!! So this year is the year to make a run!!!! Then make sure we keep enough talent to keep it going, after a year of no football.

  13. wtfvikesfan says:

Ryan D’Imperio looked very very good. Hope he get time with first stringers. Garret Mills looked good. Much better than Dugan. Cooper looked very good at center. Second string defensive like looked great. everyone of them. Chris Cook is going to be a beast. Asher Allen had good game. Husain Abdullah had a very good game, and they said is having great camp. Erin Henderson had a good game. That was nice to see. Jasper Brinkley had a couple good plays on pass defense, which would really help our linebackers if he can keep it up.

  14. wtfvikesfan says:

And Joe Webb reminded me of Daunte or michaeal vic with a acurate cannon arm.

    • vikingfan1490 says:

he remind me of cunningham more with his long strides and cuz he is skinny i didnt c the daunte , but vic seemed to look to run more than webb does

  15. wtfvikesfan says:

If Favre comes back, Sage will be traded. That is why he played so much last night. Vikes were show casing him, trying to up his value.
