Early word after the preseason game on Saturday was that rookie cornerback Chris Cook’s injury was not serious.
Apparently that isn’t entirely true.
Judd Zulgad of Access Vikings reports that Cook suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee and is expected to miss two weeks at the very minimum.
The timing of the injury should conjure up phrases like “go figure” and “knew that was coming” considering that they just traded away solid reserve cornerback Benny Sapp in exchange for Greg Camarillo.
With Sapp gone and Cook sidelined during the season opener, the Vikings are suddenly a bit shallow at the cornerback position and it increases the odds that the Vikes choose to keep either DeAndre Wright or Marcus Sherels on the 53-man roster in the first round of cuts.
Some good news came about today, however, as Toby Gerhart rejoined the team for practice.
Safety Jamarca Sanford, tight end Garrett Mills, center John Sullivan (calf), defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy and wide receiver Logan Payne (ribs) were all absent during practice on Tuesday.

Anybody know what happened to Sanford?
Johnny, Just looked at a viking injury report, Didn’t see anything on him…
Hope to get the injuries over Soon !!!
How’s it going Charlie? And ya this injury bug stuff is gettin old. We need healthy bodies with the tough schedule ahead.
Good Johnny,
How it going there in the household???
So far so good Charlie but I have to admit I’m really glad school started. lol
Hey Freds, whatcha doin’ for the next few weeks?
Glad you asked Carters, well, your old pal will be performing brain surgery 2 or 3 times, competing in the national kick boxing championships, body surfing in the ocean with Ole in Hawaii, flying a Predator Drone aircraft over Pak E Stan to whack a few Haji’s, racing my Olds 442 in a match for pink slips, flying to Alaska to baby sit for new born baby Freds “Colt” Warwas, sky dive over Bora Bora, fist fighting Al Franklin and Prince Charles at the same time, with one hand tied behind Freds back. Same old stuff I guess, why? Want to hang out or something?
Gee Freds…I dont know. Sounds like fun, but this ankle keeps acting up on me, I’m not sure. I mean I’d like to but…
All things considered, this knee injury really is fairly minor. It’s not one where after surgery he can re injure it like a sprain. The docs clean it up, cut away the tear and as soon as the swelling goes down, he’s back in the game.
With all the Tjizzle bashing is anyone concerned that Sage can’t throw a long ball. Fred thinks Sage is better than TJax, but anyone see Sage throw long during the pre season? It looks more like a punt, and seemingly always an under thrown punt. Freds is just concerned that with Sage in the game the Vikes become short pass, and no one respects the deep ball and the line is stacked all day long.
At least TJizzle can scramble and throw it long, not very accurate, but long. Come to think of it he can also throw is short inaccurate as well. And his medium range is also, well, inaccurate. But his jump pass, right, inaccurate.
Sage it is.
Well, Freds, because you chose to ignore hand size and rock skipping, you just proved you know nothing about picking a QB. Accuracy, schmaccuracy… Sage it is, alright, as the odd man out. Thanks for playing “Read Chili’s Mind”, and even though you lost, we have some nice parting gifts for you.
Buds,
Your no Carol Merrill, but thanks for the parting gift. Buds guess how old Carol Merrill is these days?
Well, older than me, and that’s…
She’s old.
Webb should be 2nd team QB.
