As we mentioned yesterday, the Vikings needed to get down to 75 players by today, and linebacker J Leman was the first to be waived.
Today they waived tackle Bill Noethlich and wide receiver Marko Mitchell.
They also placed Sidney Rice on the inactive/PUP list. This means Rice cannot play for the first six weeks but he does not count against the roster limit until he is activated. After week six, the Vikings have three weeks to activate him for practice purposes or else his season will be over.
The next round of cuts comes on Saturday, which is interesting on two levels. First, it is always exciting to see how the Vikings shape their roster. Second, every other team will be cutting a couple dozen players meaning there are players hitting the market that may interest the team.
