Wide Receiver Fixes Are Plentiful, But Not Cheap

The below post talks about how if the Vikings were willing to pay the steep price, Vincent Jackson could solve the franchise’s problems at wide receiver.  Now, a new piece of news has hit air waves that will feel somewhat like déjà vu to Vikings fans.

Jason LaConfora of the NFL Network reports that the Seattle Seahawks are actively shopping receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh with hopes of making room in the accounting records for Vincent Jackson.

If you recall, the Vikings played host to Housh prior to the 2009 season and rolled out the red carpet.  Housh was outspoken about his decision to pick the Seahawks and cited the quarterback situation (Favre wasn’t in the picture at that point) as a major factor.

That didn’t work out too well for him as the Seahawks went 5-11 and the Vikings were 12-4.  Last season, Housh caught 79 passes for 911 yards plus a trio of touchdowns.  Those numbers were quite a bit lower than when he was catching passes for the Bengals.

I highly doubt the Vikings would be too excited about giving up draft picks in exchange for a contract that guarantees the player $7 million in the upcoming season.

I suspect the team’s interest in another possession receiver like Housh will only peak if he is cut outright by the Seahawks, somehow passes through waivers unclaimed, and becomes a free agent once again ready to have the red carpet rolled out for him.

[EDITOR’S NOTE:  Thanks to Marty for reminding me that Housh has accrued enough years to not be subject to the waiver system.  If cut, he would instantly become an unrestricted free agent.]

Dallas is going to trade or release Patrick Crayton. Bucs will cut Clayton(but he hasn’t done anything in a few years).

  2. c.carterhof says:

Darn, you thimk Miami would take that trade back?
    No, I like Camarillo.
I think we’ll be ok at WR. It’s the O-line & Corner that needs help.

Hey. its only 7 days til opening kickoff. 7 days, 7 Tavar…
    no, 7 Randall Cunningham days!
I had ya for a second, didnt I?

  3. Fragile Freds says:

Freds is with Carters on this one. The Vike are fine at WR, let’s not go all knee jerk on this short term problem. The idea that we might give up a high pick that must be used on the O line next year is a very short term view of the team. Bernie the glass gives them at least the threat of a long ball, Cheech can also go deep if need be, he has plenty of speed. Camarillo will be a nice plus for them.

    Stay the course at WR.

  4. wtfvikesfan says:

How about Vikes going after a center. That position scares me.

  5. bigjohnny84 says:

No to this jerkoff he had his chance to sign with Vikes already.

  6. Fragile Freds says:

You old pal Fragile just found out he has to travel to parts unknown next week and will not be able to see the game live.

Freds hates when his team plays on days other than Sunday.

  7. marty264 says:

Adam, Housh would not have to clear waivers. He would immediately be an UFA. I can’t remember the rules, but players with so many years of experience do not go through waivers.

  8. bigjohnny84 says:

    Any links for the game?

  9. Adam Warwas says:

Good catch, Marty! I forgot about that.

  10. c.carterhof says:

    Broncos #1 offense got nothin’ vs Vikes#2/3 D. = A big fat 0

  11. Nume says:

If he gets cut, I say go after him, may as well. Otherwise, its not worth giving up a pick for him.

  12. Nume says:

Lol glad Tarvaris is our number 2… 0/6! What great numbers :P. At least the defense is able to score while the offense cannot… heh.

  13. Nume says:

And as I type, D gets another turnover. Glad they at least showed up to play somewhat :P.

  14. c.carterhof says:

    Joe Webb.
    That is all.

  15. c.carterhof says:

    Lloyd= 2 touchbacks.

  16. Nume says:

    Webb=41 yard run and 1/1 :P.

  17. Nume says:

Also, is it bad that after one series, Webb has the most passing yards and 1 less than Young for most rushing yards?

  18. c.carterhof says:

  19. c.carterhof says:

Hey Johnny, Ian Johnson 5 yd TD run.

Capped a Webb led drive. Nume told ya about the run, dude is lighting.
Reynaud also had a nice run.

  20. c.carterhof says:

    24-14 Vikes.

  21. c.carterhof says:

Broncos go for it on 4th down. Our ball!

  22. c.carterhof says:

3rd qtr, Webb throws pick. At least made tackle. Denver 3rd & goal at our 1.

  23. c.carterhof says:

4th at the 1 foot line, end of 3rd.

  24. c.carterhof says:

That might be a TD, they’re lookin’ at it.

  25. c.carterhof says:

    No TD, still 4th.

  26. c.carterhof says:

Fred Evans said NO! 2 yard loss.

  27. wtfvikesfan says:

Hey Adam!! Speilman just said Sidney Rice can play week 6. That is what I thought. Why spend money on Jackson who will be gone 6 weeks if he doesn’t sign by sat., 3 weeks for sure.

  28. c.carterhof says:

3 and out for Webb and the Vike offense.

  29. Nume says:

63 yard TD pass from Webb to Walker :P.

  30. bigjohnny84 says:

Thanx guys, My feed came back for awhile but left me again. Damn internet.

  31. bigjohnny84 says:

So Tjack made another statement tonight to make his case.

  32. c.carterhof says:

    Reynaud fumbles, Denver ball.

  33. c.carterhof says:

Stopped them on 4th down, ball game.

  34. wtfvikesfan says:

Speilman said almost every team in the league has talked to the Vikes about trading for Vikings defensive lineman. Maybe Vikes can trade for offensive line help.

  35. bigjohnny84 says:

Ya. Thanx for filling me in CC. Wish our o-line was as tough as our d-line

  36. wtfvikesfan says:

Hey Adam!! Speilman just said Sidney Rice can play week 6. That is what I thought. Why spend money on Jackson who will be gone 6 weeks if he doesn’t sign by sat., 3 weeks for sure. Game 6!!!

    • Nume says:

Yeah the reason for this I believe is that the 6 weeks for PUP are 6 actual weeks, not 6 football weeks. The Vikings have a bye in those first 6 games, so thats why he could actually play in game 6. However, the doctors still said week 8 or 9 I believe so who knows how long he’ll actually be out.

  37. c.carterhof says:

I know this kid does’nt get it yet, but thats just it. If he ever does…

look out, because he has freakish ability. I’m gonna say this now, he can be a star in this league.

    • CalVkg says:

the more i watch him, the more i like him. not afraid of the nfl, unlike tj when he came up, remember? “are you ready?”, “no”

the team will play for this guy
