A conversation with Albert Young

Albert Young, RB #34 for our beloved Minnesota Vikings was kind enough to take some time and speak with me this morning. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we have not only the most talented team in the NFL, but a team where the players are truly great to the fans. Here are a few questions I asked Albert, and what he had to say:

Mike: Going from a PS player to “Little Chester”, can you explain the ride?

AY: (Laughing about the nickname) It’s just a process, just the way I got into the league, you just work hard and gotta get there.

Mike: It’s made out that some Vets really hate preseason and TC, can you explain it from your POV; as a player it has really seemed to help?

AY: I don’t really hear too many vets complaining. It’s really necessary. Its a part of the game so we take it for what it is. Training camp used to be a month, now we only spend 2 weeks in Mankato so it’s not that bad. It’s all part of getting chemistry.

Mike: It also seems this team is really close, does TC, coming back from the offseason help that?

AY: You got to have fun out there and the guys keep each other up, so it works out well for us.

Mike: Will your day to day preparations change much now that you seem to be our best option as a 3rd down back/blocking back?

AY: I’ll take it just like I did last year; you never know when you’re going to go in. I hope everyone prepares as though they are going in. You can’t change because with any one snap things could happen so you got to be ready.

Mike:  When I spoke to Erin (Henderson) he said not only were the LBs close, but the entire D and the entire team, from your view, are the RBs  pretty tight?

AY: You got to be a close, not just the RBs but group across the board.  We have no idea who reports these schism reports (no player named), you got to take that with a grain of salt because we keep everything in house.

Mike: Could you give us fans a hint of what Coach Bienemy is like (is he always yelling like the clips we see on TV).

AY: (Laughing) He’s just like you see. He’s a good coach, out spoken, passionate, and he knows what he’s talking about. He treats everyone the same no matter who you are.

(And what were are all waiting for!)

Mike: What does Thursday the 9th mean to you? Is the team looking for revenge or are ya’ll just going about business as usual?

AY: It’s a huge game, no doubt about it. It’s the first game and as of now, it’s the biggest. So no, we are not approaching it like any other game.

I just want to again say thanks to AY, and hope he stops by to check our site (thanks to Adam and all you loyal visitors) the best Vikings blog online.  I just want to wish AY, along with the entire Vikings organization a great year. Hopefully guys like Erin (who had one hell of a game VS. Denver) and AY will keep us in the loop throughout the season.

Albert does seem like a pretty nice guy, Class act…
Safest bet as a 3rd down back.

Not to insult Albert Young, but why can’t Peterson become an every down back.
