Vincent Jackson Rumors Persist

The rumors of the Vikings being interested in wide receiver Vincent Jackson are just not going away.

Here is the latest from PFT:

In five days, a hearing will be held in New York to determine whether Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson will miss six games or three games if is traded during his three-game suspension for violation of the substance-abuse policy.  The NFL believes he should; the NFLPA believes he shouldn’t.

Either way, word is spreading that the Vikings are the team that hopes to swing a deal for Jackson, if the ultimate absence is only three games.

Last Saturday, an unnamed franchise worked out a one-year deal with Jackson’s agents, who then could not work out a trade with the Chargers.  That team has not been identified.  On Friday, our pal Henry Lake of KFAN in Minneapolis said via Twitter that the Vikings are making a play for Jackson.  Though all concerned persons and entities are keeping quiet on this one, we’ve done some digging and we believe that Lake is right — and that the Vikings are the team that nearly traded for Jackson last week.

Based on the Vikings’ performance on offense against the Saints on Thursday night, the Vikings surely could use him.

I have to admit that a receiving group consisting of Jackson (when his suspension is up), Sidney Rice (when he heals), Percy Harvin, Bernard Berrian, Greg Camarillo, and Greg Lewis would have to be one of the best in the league.  Having a group like that would also seriously eliminate any excuses for Brad Childress and his offense.

I remain a little puzzled, however, why the Vikings would consider giving up such hefty compensation only to sign Jackson to a one year deal… when he is already going to miss three to six games this year.  Especially when it appeared they could have had Housh, who could have played from day one, for a fraction of the price and not given up any draft picks.  Furhtermore, it might make more sense to trade for left tackle Marcus McNeil than Jackson, given the condition the offensive line appears to be in.

I’ll be sure to keep you updated if anything new comes forward on this one.

Rice, 6’4″ with Jackson, 6’5″ on the other side, teamed with Percy and Harvin and Favre throwing to them?

    Unbeatable.

Unfortunately it’s just too good of an idea and Childress would never allow it.
That would be like involving AD in the game, during the 4th quarter. Ain’t going to happen.

OMG just read Vikes are gonna bring in a few reject WRs for workouts this week and none of them are even as good as Javon Walker. Another Childo brainstorm god help us.

Harvin has hip issues also, compounding our problems. But the NFL is doing it to us again by giving Jackson a FOUR game suspension instead of three. Still, we’ve got to get somebody, I’m not convinced Rice will play this year. He’s using a walker, for crying out loud. If the guys we’ve got can’t do it, we’re screwed.
